Bunk: sustainable eating and sleeping in Utrecht

In an old church next to Utrecht's central station, you'll walk right into Bunk where you can work, sleep and enjoy yourself from 7:30 am until late every day. In short, a sustainable restaurant and hotel concept that definitely belongs on the greener list. And a big 10 for the location! TE GEK!

Sustainable food at Bunk restaurant

At thegreenlist.nl we love places like Bunk. Casual eating and drinking together at long tables, fine music, friendly staff, a good menu with shared dining dishes or main courses that you can share - or keep to yourself. The kitchen at Bunk restaurant has - as we like to think of it - a sustainable disposition and to every foodie thought. On the menu, you spot traditional preparation methods such as smoking, pickling, marinating and stewing. And meat is the exception rather than the rule, and often can only be ordered as a supplement. We asked which shared dining dishes are favourites of guests: ‘the courgette carpaccio and roasted peppers’. OK, we'll start with those then.

Bunk Utrecht organises regular sustainable events and workshops aimed at engaging the local community. They collaborate with local artists and musicians to create a vibrant and sustainable cultural scene. And they also employ people with a distance to the labour market in the service because Bunk believes everyone deserves a chance to participate. So do we.

Bunk, a fun and more sustainable choice to sleep and eat in Utrecht. Left a hotel room, right a pod.

Also sustainable and affordable sleeping in Utrecht at Bunk

Sleeping at Bunk is also a greener party and there is a bed for every type of traveler - and wallet: from compact but functional rooms (around a hundred euros a night) to affordable pods (these are the dorms, the hostel section for around forty quid a night). Wow, where else can you find that in the city? A hotel and hostel, in other words. Or well, don't let Bunk hear that. Rather, they take the S out of the word hostel, because with their Japanese-inspired pods, they've really done their best to give you as a ho(s)tel guest a top-notch experience with good beds and a blackout curtain for total privacy. Last but not least, the wifi is free for all. In short, even non-hostel-goers will have a good time, we think. Besides lots of sustainable details in the furnishings - nice - 2020, Bunk received the Golden Green Key certificate for their sustainable efforts in areas such as energy conservation, waste separation and sustainable purchasing. Top, a nice hallmark in the travel industry that you can trust. You can read more about labels when choosing your accommodation in this article.

Are you sorry there is no such thing in Amsterdam? Then we have good news: in Amsterdam North you will also find a Bunk. Same concept! Same prices.
