You wouldn't expect it from the outside, but behind the facade of Emmaus Bilthoven there is a gigantic thrift store. Downstairs, upstairs, and everywhere you'll find corners and rooms filled with second-hand items. Not for nothing is this one of our favorite thrift stores.
Circles at Emmaus Bilthoven
Emmaus Bilthoven is located right in the shopping street and appears to be a modest thrift store from the outside. Once inside, a whole world is hidden behind the facade. The store is large, consists of two floors and has corners and rooms everywhere for you to explore. Among other things, you can find clothing, furniture, books, toys, tableware and small items. The prices are friendly and the range is nicely diverse.
The thrift store is run entirely by volunteers. They collect second-hand items, sort them, and repair them if necessary, and then sell them for small prices in the store. Emmaus Bilthoven also regularly appears outside of its own store. This is the same organization we met behind the scenes after Lowlands. After the festival, volunteers collect usable tents, folding chairs, sleeping bags, air mattresses, and other camping gear left behind by campers from the trash. Some of it is sold in the thrift store, and other items go to aid organizations and the homeless shelter.
