Friesland in the tropics! That is a bit how an afternoon at De Koken in Akkrum feels. This colourful terrace is situated by the water, tucked away at the campsite and marina of De Drijfveer. It is the kind of place you do not just happen to stumble upon, but really need to know about or be tipped off on (by us). Settle down among the cheerful parasols and vintage furniture for coffee and cake, lunch, drinks or dinner. You can even moor your boat directly alongside the terrace or go for a dip. In short, pack your swimwear and your afternoon is easily sorted at this tropical waterfront terrace.
A menu that fits right up your green street
As far as we're concerned, the menu scores a ten out of ten with plenty of vegetarian and vegan choices. When it comes to ingredients, De Koken tries to go for organic and fair trade options as much as possible. We like! Behind this hidden hotspot is Maartje, who started the place out of her love for baking, cooking and laid-back terraces. Many of the pieces of furniture came from Marktplaats and it is precisely this eclectic collection that gives De Koken its relaxed, summery vibe. In July and August, the terrace is open daily; in May, June and September only at weekends. View the current times on the website of De Koken.
And be sure to also check out our video below. We were already allowed to have a sneak preview and Maartje shares her signature dressing for a summer salad so that you can already taste the flavour of De Koken at home.
