Our do-it-yourself expert<\/em> This time, Melanie tells how you can do the most common minor clothing repairs yourself from now on. This time, she shows off a solution for trousers or skirts that are too tight.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Minor clothing repairs<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Repairing your own clothes is not only better for the planet, it also makes you a richer person yourself. You save a beloved item of clothing - because why did it break? It must have come \u00f3because you loved wearing it so much and you literally save yourself money, because that trip to the shop or tailor is no longer necessary. You fix it yourself for another round of wearing pleasure. So put on a nice podcast or playlist (tips for this we also have<\/a>) and get to work on small repair jobs. This time we will work on an extension for a pair of trousers or a skirt that is too tight. Anyone can do this!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sin! Far too many broken clothes in the wardrobe<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

A survey by UK textile organisation WRAP has found that 30% of people have garments hanging in their wardrobes that they no longer wear, simply because they need repair. Bummer! In France, the government is going to help people. Here, you get (up to) 25 euros discount on repairs (and pay an extra tax for a fast fashion purchase) in the hope that it will encourage people to repair clothes more often. In the Netherlands, we have to make do with initiatives such as United Repair Center<\/a>, mended.eu<\/a> (send in your repairs and get it returned fixed) or the local tailor - which we absolutely welcome, but more is always better.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With this simple hack, you can enjoy wearing those too-tight trousers or skirt again. By the way, this is also ideal if you are pregnant. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Solution for too-tight trousers or skirt<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Make an extension piece for your buttonhole. To do this, use a rectangular piece from the buttonhole waistband of an old pair of trousers. Cut about 15 centimetres from this and glue the frayed edges or finish with a zigzag stitch. Put a button on the other side. Then make a rectangular piece of fabric and make a buttonhole here on one side and fasten the button on the other. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
