And we have good news about that, because among all those beach clubs there are also places that think just a little bit greener. Sustainable beach clubs in Zandvoort? Yes, there certainly are! Zandvoort attracts millions of beach lovers every year, but that doesn't mean it's all crowded and touristy here. With a beach nine kilometres long and a hundred metres wide, there is plenty of room for a quiet spot in the sand - or a relaxing table on the terrace of one of the thirty beach clubs. And good news: more and more beach clubs in Zandvoort are consciously working on their ecological footprint. For instance, they actively work on waste reduction, many pavilions participate in beach clean-ups<\/em> and you will increasingly see local and vegetarian dishes on menus. The beach is also super easy to reach by train. From Amsterdam, you can get there in half an hour. So for anyone in the mood for sun and a greener choice, this is the perfect destination. Hippie Fish<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

At Hippie Fish<\/a> feels like you are on holiday for a while - and we mean: bare feet in the sand, light Ibiza vibes<\/em> and that relaxed vibe everywhere. The interior is beautiful white, wood and linen: minimalist yet super cosy. You can sit here on the sunny terrace or inside with sea views. The menu? It is full of goodies for every moment of the day, with plenty of vegetarian options and a very nice oat milk cappuccino. They work with local products and consciously choose biodegradable materials. Plastic? Not here. The team is friendly, relaxed and happy to think with you. In short: Hippie Fish is one of those places where you stick around, and with a good feeling. Fancy action as well as a good story? Then you should come to The Spot<\/a> are. This beach club is the place to be for surfers, kiters, suppers - and for everyone who loves the sea and the planet. Not for nothing is this the official Ocean Friendly Beachclub<\/em> of Zandvoort. On the menu, you will find at least 50% vegetarian and vegan options, with plenty of focus on local and organic ingredients. Think blueberry jam from Santpoort and fish from Dutch soil. Everything is sourced on a small scale to avoid food waste. And it's good outside too: the sunny terrace is 100% smoke-free and plastic-free. The Spot is closed during the winter months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thalassa<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Thalassa<\/a> is one of those beach bars you can visit all year round - and that makes it extra nice. In summer you chill on the sunny terrace with a cold drink in your hand, in winter you warm up with a steaming chocolate milk after a refreshing walk on the beach. This beach pavilion is built with sustainable materials and was not for nothing previously awarded the best and most sustainable beach pavilion in the Netherlands (with Green Key Gold distinction!). They cook as much as possible with local ingredients and keep it close to home: \u2018fish comes by boat, not by plane\u2018 is the motto here. There is also a takeaway<\/em> for snacks, ice creams or a drink on the go<\/em>. And for those coming with children: there is a large play area outside where they can have a great time.

Laguna Beach Club<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Whoop: a beach club with heaps of vegan options! Laguna Beach Club<\/a> proves that you can also enjoy sun, sea and plant-based delicacies on the beach. Spotted on the menu: flammkuchen with vegan bacon, snack boards and well-topped vegetable sandwiches. In summer, this place is a favourite hang-out<\/em> for families, so count on lots of happy kids' stuff. And for those who want to expend their energy: you can also take surfing lessons here. In winter, Laguna is closed. But as soon as the sun shows up again, they are ready to give you a carefree vegan beach day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rapa Nui<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

On the border of Zandvoort and Bloemendaal is Rapa Nui<\/a>, a sustainable beach club with a relaxed surfvibe<\/em>. You sit here so comfortably that you almost forget you still have to cycle back. Surfsana surf school is right next to the beach bar, so whether you are just getting off your board or just want to soak up the sun: this is the place to be. On the spacious (plastic-free!) terrace you will enjoy homemade cakes, organic juices and a menu with something for everyone: from meat and fish to surprisingly veg(n). Even the croquette on the children's menu is organic. Together with the Zandvoort municipality, Rapa Nui is actively working to reduce disposable plastic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Phosphorus<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

For those looking for a hidden gem on the coast, is Phosphorus<\/a> the ultimate destination. Located on Zandvoort's South Beach, this beach club is only accessible on foot or by bike, which makes for a serene and unspoilt atmosphere. The tip for nature lovers! It does lie on the nude beach, but oh well, what does that matter (you don't have to be bare-chested)! The name \u2018Phosphoros\u2019 is derived from the Greek word phosphoros, meaning \u2018beacon of light\u2019, a reference to the magical phenomenon where the sea lights up at night due to luminous plankton. Thanks to its remote location, you have a chance to admire this natural wonder, better known as sea sparkle, here. Fosfor's menu changes monthly and offers classic dishes prepared with fresh, locally sourced ingredients. Away from the crowds, Fosfor is the ideal place that definitely belongs on the greener list.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Zuidstrand 7, Zandvoort<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pole 69<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Near Fosfor - yes, we are still on Zandvoort's nude beach - you will find Pole 69<\/a>, a beach pavilion with a rich history as well as a green heart. Over 30 years ago, this was one of the first pavilions to venture onto this special stretch of coast. Once located at beach post 69, it has since moved slightly to post 68.25, but the name remained - as did the relaxed, no-nonsense atmosphere. The interior is delightfully vintage, with a seventies hippie vibe<\/em> and an open terrace where your feet are in the sand. No frills, just good and laid-back<\/em>. The kitchen works consciously: it cooks with responsible and preferably organic ingredients. Fish is MSC certified, meat is free-range and vegetables are sourced as much as possible from Dutch soil. Because less transport means fewer emissions - and more taste. Every season brings new, sustainable choices to the plate. Combine that with good music, the occasional party and the sun on your face, and you have the perfect beach day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kayuca<\/a> you should also check out. Also here - of course - laid-back vibes,<\/em> but with its own twist. The interior is a picture: lots of wood, terracotta, vintage parasols and so many cacti that you feel like you have landed in a Moroccan-Iban dream house. And the cool thing? Much of the furniture and accessories are for sale. The menu has a surprising number of vegetarian and vegan options such as Pink Pancakes, Pita Falafel, a corn burger on a brioche bun, vegan gyoza and a vegan curry. And that's just the tip. You can even rent luxury beach beds and order your lunch just from your bed. We give Kayuca a fat green tick. Is it full? Then try neighbouring Ubuntu<\/a>.
