Texel is a great holiday destination. Nice and close to home and yet you are out and about. And on a piece of world heritage. Ting ting ting... those are already a few sustainability points for this island. But even once you're on Texel, you can take a greener route. To get you started, we have listed our favourite sustainable beach tents for you.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

In search of Texel's cutest beach bars<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Texel is the holiday island of the Netherlands, with no less than 30 kilometres of beach, especially on the north-west side of the island. Whether you like quiet, wide beaches near the lighthouse or prefer the cosiness of De Koog or Den Hoorn. There is something for everyone. Divided over the island, you will find eighteen beach bars, surprisingly many of which are also open in winter. And good news for everyone who likes to eat a little sustainably: you can eat out sustainably in more and more places on Texel. Check out our list of sustainable restaurants on Texel<\/a>. Cape North<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Beach pavilion Cape North<\/a> is located on the east coast of Texel, near De Cocksdorp. From the terrace, you can even see Vlieland. There are no less than 81 solar panels on the roof, and most of the equipment runs on self-generated electricity. Hardly any gas is used. Plastic is also carefully considered: biscuits are not packaged separately and reusable tea strainers and coffee milk cups are used. You can come here for a drink, lunch or dinner - \u00e0 la carte or as a surprise menu. Most of the produce comes from Texel and is therefore locally produced, with plenty of vegetarian and vegan choices. The wines on the menu come from Europe as much as possible, to reduce transport kilometres. Yes, everything really has been thought through here. And that makes Kaap Noord perhaps the most sustainable beach pavilion on Texel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beach pavilion Twelve<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Between Den Burg and Den Hoorn, on a quieter stretch of beach, lies Beach pavilion Twelve<\/a>, the only beach pavilion on this exit. The pavilion has a relaxed Ibiza vibe<\/em> and a large terrace overlooking the sea. The menu features mainly local products: meat, fish and dairy from Texel itself, but especially many original vega(n) dishes. Truly a top spot for on your greener list! How about jerk mushrooms<\/em> on naan, a vegan rendang of jackfruit, or tacos al pastor <\/em>with chickpeas and mushrooms? The kimchi hot dog and Beyond burger are also popular. Those who want even more plant-based can visit their sister: Witlof Foodbar in Den Burg - Texel's only fully vegan restaurant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pole 9<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

In the south of Texel, near Den Hoorn, lies beach pavilion Pole 9<\/a>, the only beach pavilion on this stretch of beach. The wooden pavilion is gas-free, runs entirely on electricity and is heated in winter with a pellet stove. The menu features mostly local products, such as cheese from farm Wezenspyk, fries from farm De Hemmer and fish from the North Sea. There are also some vegetarian and vegan choices. But honestly, the choice is (still) more limited than at Kaap Noord, Strandpaviljoen Twaalf or Strandpaal 21. Those eating meat get beef from Texel Black Angus cattle grazing in nature reserve De Geul. Together with Staatsbosbeheer and a local livestock farmer, the aim is to make the story as fair and circular as possible, using the whole animal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beach post 21<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Beach club Beach post 21<\/a> Located on the popular beach near De Koog, it is a lovely place with a relaxed beach vibe<\/em>. Inside it is tastefully decorated, outside you sit with your feet in the sand on the spacious terrace. The menu is full of local and organic products, with as few processed ingredients as possible. Also nice: there are several vega(n) options. How about a pumpkin soup with coconut milk, a flammkuchen with spinach and feta, or loaded frieze<\/em> with parmesan and truffle mayonnaise? In the mood for something heartier? Then go for the Beyond burger with onion compote and Texel fries. In the summer months, you can also visit the beach kiosk for food and drinks to go<\/em> - Perfect for a picnic in the sand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Faro Beach<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

At the very north of Texel, near the iconic red lighthouse, is beach pavilion Faro Beach<\/a>. You will find it at the edge of a gigantic vast beach where it is rarely crowded and where you can walk endlessly - also with your dog. The pavilion was recently renovated and decorated with lots of wood and soft, natural colours, creating a relaxed atmosphere. The menu offers something for everyone: meat and fish, much of it local, as well as plenty of veg options. There is also plenty of choice for children. After a long walk or a day out, this is a nice place to sit down and be pampered by the friendly service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
