Looking for an original getaway just outside Amsterdam? Then put Wijngaard de Amsteltuin on your list. This green oasis on the edge of Amstelveen, in the middle of rural Amstelland, feels like a holiday in your own country. Some 3,500 vines grow here on more than a hectare, with grape varieties that thrive surprisingly well in the Dutch climate. The vineyard is not only a place where wine is made, but also a place where great pop ups are organised. Their famous terrace days are every year within no-time<\/em> fully booked, but there is also a lot of fun to be had here in autumn and winter. Extra fun: it was a top year for the grapes, so the 2026 harvest promises a lot of good things in your glass.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Pop-ups in Vineyard the Amstel Garden<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Amsteltuin organises original pop-ups throughout the year. We dropped in for a cheese fondue evening in \u2019t Glazen Huis, an atmospheric greenhouse overlooking the vines, organised in collaboration with Bart cooks<\/a>. We started with a mini walk through the vineyard and learned all about the grapes and the wine-making process during a beautiful sunset. When it got dark: quickly to the table for the cheese fondue in the illuminated greenhouse, cosily decorated with rugs and candles. What we were served: a home-made amuse with a little wine tasting, creamy cheese fondue with bread and original side dishes to dip in the cheese, such as apple, pear, beans, celeriac and potatoes. A bottle of wine from the vineyard for every two people. Nice detail: during the tasting you choose your favourite wine, and you get a whole bottle of it at the table. And to finish: a dessert and a cup of tea. In short, truly an autumn evening from a movie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Terrace days in the vineyard <\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Besides these fondue nights, there are also game pop-ups in autumn and summer high-wine afternoons. Perhaps most popular are the terrace days, which return every year from mid-May onwards. On Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, you can then take a seat among the vines at a table or with a rug in the grass. Homegrown wine, a well-stocked basket full of goodies, the sun on your snout... super idyllic. No wonder the tables fill up fast. What makes this place extra special? Everything here is done with attention. Annelies and Douwe, the initiators of the Amsteltuin, work as much as possible with local products and local suppliers. They also reuse materials: cupboards are made from old fruit crates, for example, and factory lamps are given a second life. On the Amsteltuin site, there is also a place for day care: in \u2019t Grote Huis, opposite the greenhouse, there is room for people with cognitive disabilities or mental health problems, such as dementia, Parkinson's or loneliness. In the vineyard itself, volunteers from the neighbourhood help with maintenance. All with love for the place and for people. Truly a location with a warm heart and one to remember, especially now that the 2026 harvest is so exceptionally good.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
