A nice second-hand market is easily a party for an enthusiast, but the Betonnerie has a golden edge. With tasty food stalls, live music and a relaxed atmosphere, it feels more like a mini-festival than a flea market. Saskia visited the evening edition on a Friday night - Concrete from - And was instantly sold. This second-hand market in Utrecht definitely belongs on the greener list!
Second-hand shopping in Utrecht at the Betonnerie
Cleaning out your attic? Or just in need of some new finds? Then the Betonnerie is your place. This cosy second-hand market descends every last Sunday of the month on Beton-T, the experimental city square on a former industrial site near Europalaan. Some months you are lucky and two editions are even organised: during the day on Sunday and once on Friday evening. Then the venue turns into the atmospheric Betonnuit. The atmosphere? More of a festival than a flea market. With food trucks, live music and a colourful mix of people, the place is always buzzing. And like any good market, you never know what you'll come across... but that's what makes it so much fun. Spoiler: expect lots of clothes!
I scored this at Betonnuit, Betonnerie's evening market
I myself scored an upcycled denim jacket for only 12 euros. An original find: an old thrift store coat, pimped up with embroidered paintings, which also came from the thrift store. And I also found a beautiful pink houseplant, a hand-painted dachshund drawing by a local artist (a perfect gift for a friend) and a delicious tempeh sandwich to eat right away. Tip: Come by bike or ov. This is not only nice and sustainable, but also convenient: parking in the area is limited and quite pricey. From the parking fee, you can score a complete outfit. Don't say you weren't warned....

At the Betonnerie in Utrecht, you can search for the best second-hand finds for a bargain while enjoying a bite to eat, a drink and a DJ. Watch the video report of the visit here.
Delicious food at the Betonnerie
You can just pop down to the market for a bite to eat and a drink - there are plenty of cosy food stalls - but you're also right next door. Karma Kebab is a stone's throw away: fast food starring vegetables, and also a super cosy place where the festival vibe continues. Or take a seat at The Crooked Herring, a local brewery and tasting room where they serve quirky beers, often paired with surprisingly good food.
