OK, where do we start... In the luxury farmhouses - your stay for the next few days - you will have a great time. Some cottages even have a sauna! The resort also has an impressive swimming pool with spectacular slides, a beach with large playground and climbing tower, and culinary hotspots such as the Grand Café and Gusto are also not to be missed. And as icing on the cake, the park is a feast for the eyes with a beautiful sculpture garden and art collection. There is no better way to start your day than with a walk or a jog around this beautiful area. We love coming to this special place in Drenthe. So it's high time to tip this luxury holiday park in more detail!

Sustainable farms

The renovated farmhouses at Hof van Saksen are spacious, modern and designed with great taste. All the farmhouses have a private garden and the larger accommodations have a large terrace with a covered veranda, perfect for enjoying the outdoors every season. In the process, much of the furniture and interiors are refurbished, which naturally ensures less waste and reuse of materials. We were the lucky ones to stay in Such a ‘new’ farmhouse with sauna were allowed to stay overnight.

The farmhouses are equipped with energy-efficient induction hobs and smart heating systems. Thanks to ICY technology, energy consumption is managed centrally: thermostats are automatically adjusted when you are not in the cottage, saving energy without sacrificing comfort. Some farmhouses even offer a private sauna, and honestly: it's hard to imagine a better end to your day. If you are a real greenie, you will also be pleased by the little green details such as the ecological cleaning products, the tasty Rituals care products you find in the farmhouse and the 26 charging stations you find in the park for your car.

The park's waste management is also right up the green alley. Hof van Saksen saves a considerable amount of energy every month through their smart and separate waste collection. The savings the park makes by doing this is equivalent to showering fifteen thousand times and driving 28 thousand kilometres in a diesel car, according to the magazine you will find in your farmhouse.

Hof van Saksen is a spacious park with lots of visible greenery, but there is much more happening in the area of biodiversity that you don't immediately see. Nice to know the next time you wander through the park or sculpture garden yourself, Hof van Saksen works together with Staatsbosbeheer to protect and enhance nature in and around the park. Everywhere around you, wildflowers are sown - as much as a thousand square metres of flower mixture has been spread - and pruning waste is left lying around to give animals and insects a safe home in the park too. There are also two hundred bird houses, breeding baskets for ducks and a green roof. These all contribute to a healthy ecosystem around the resort and are additional reasons why this park definitely fits on your greener bucket list.

The swimming pool at Hof van Saksen

The swimming pool at Hof van Saksen is without doubt the jewel of the resort. Or well actually the slides are the stars of the show. Let us take you through them. First of all you have the Bombo, where the four of you can freefall ten metres on one inflatable raft. Then there is the Intenso, a thrilling ride through a tunnel full of flashing disco lights. Or do you dare the Presto where you are pulled down at speeds of up to 40 kilometres per hour. Finally, the new slide called Subito is also a crowd favourite, when you roll around in a dark funnel full of light effects, you will understand why.

Not only for its spectacular slides - which you won't find anywhere else in the Netherlands - but also for its smart sustainability solutions, the swimming paradise is worth a mention. The pool is equipped with a movable bottom, which is raised after closing time. This clever system ensures that less water needs to be heated, saving the park huge amounts of energy during the night hours. This measure helps minimise energy consumption without affecting guest comfort. In addition, the water 75% contains less chlorine than in traditional pools, which is not only better for nature, but also for your skin and eyes.

Best swimming time in Hof van Saksen

If you can't get enough of the spectacular slides during your stay at Hof van Saksen, we have a tip for you! Go swimming between 13:30 and 15:00 or between 18:30 and 19:30. During these times, with a bit of luck, you'll have the slides almost all to yourself. We are the lucky ones who got to spend several weekends at the park and these were invariably the quietest times for an optimal sliding experience!

The restaurants of Hof van Saksen

For your daily shopping, there is the Noordermarkt, where you can choose from a wide range of local and organic products. It's a feast for the eyes! From freshly baked bread and local delicacies to carefully selected organic wines - everything is ready to brighten up your holiday culinary experience. Would you rather eat out? The restaurants on the park, such as the Grand Café and Gusto, offer an insanely delicious menu with dishes prepared from as many local and organic ingredients as possible. Both restaurants also have an excellent vegetarian selection, so even as a vegetarian you can enjoy surprising and tasty dishes here.

Hof van Saksen's Grand Café has a nice menu with a fine selection of vegetarian dishes. The Italian restaurant Gusto opposite the Grand Café is also a great place to eat.
