Organic certified skincare with respect for nature. With Laboratoires de Biarritz products, the whole family can enjoy lubricating all year round. The range of skincare products for adults and children is huge. Together with her family, Saskia tested a number of products for daily care. Do you already know this French beauty brand committed to our oceans?
Why do I fall for organic skincare from Laboratoires de Biarritz
In collaboration with House of Natural Beauty
There is a lot to do about sustainable skincare. This is primarily because there is a lot of deception. Beauty brands cleverly use opaque and vague sustainable terms that make people feel good, but actually say little about the actual (negative) impact of a product. I also notice that there is a lot of misunderstanding about beauty products, both skin care and other cosmetics such as make-up. I regularly get messages from followers and readers who want to tip me ‘a nice sustainable beauty brand’. Often, natural care, vegan labelled products and packaging-free products are labelled as ‘a nice sustainable choice’. Don't get me wrong, these can certainly be sustainable choices. But whether a product is packaging-free, vegan or made from natural materials basically says nothing about sustainability. Want to know more? To do so, check out this article.
The claim ‘natural’ says nothing, a label does
Take natural ingredients, they still cannot be obtained in an environmentally friendly way. Milieu Centraal clearly explains: ‘growing natural ingredients often requires farmland and that is scarce. Maybe forests and jungles were cut down or a lot of artificial fertilisers and pesticides were used when growing the ingredients in your natural beauty products. These are all things that are not environmentally friendly.’ In short, choosing more sustainable care can be tricky and, above all, quite confusing. A helpful tool to choose better and more consciously is to pay attention to reliable labels. And so French Laboratoires de Biarritz comes my way, care products with a COSMOS ORGANIC seal of approval.
Milieu Centraal on the COSMOS label
COSMOS is a European standard for natural cosmetics to which several labels belong. What requirements this label has: 95% of the plant ingredients must be of organic origin. There must be a company environmental plan. There are also strict requirements on packaging and degradability of ingredients. There are negative lists of ingredients. There is also a ban on microplastics and requirements on used palm fat.

What products from Laboratoires de Biarritz have we tried
Before I share my list, I want to give you an idea of the wide range. I have rarely seen an organic certified beauty brand with so much choice. Various face care such as day and night creams, scrubs, serums, eye creams, masks, lip balm, striae cream, shower gel, skin and hair oil, make-up remover, cleansing milk, sun protection for adults, children and babies, athletes, tinted sun protection, self-tanning drops, aftersun, care for the body, for hands, from scars, from tattoos, from skin during breastfeeding, buttocks cream and other baby care.... and this is not even all. The range of beauty products from Laboratoires de Biarritz is endless. So how do you choose your favourites? Less is more! I started exploring the brand by choosing the products I like to use on a daily basis. And I ended up with this list:
- Tinted facial sunscreen SPF50 Beige: this is cream I put on my face every day as a day cream. I always have a high factor, preferably SPF50 hence this choice. It has a tint right away, which gives a fresh look. Even on lesser days, I now look more radiant. Tip from Mayke Janissen of House of Natural Beauty, the brand's importer: ‘should the shade beige be too dark in winter, it can be mixed with a day cream. Two other shades are also available: gold and ivory’. (€22.90, 50 ml.)
- Cleansing Milk and Cleansing Oil: I use these to cleanse my face. The Cleansing Milk is very nice for taking off your eye make-up and the Cleansing Oil is great for cleaning your face. I use the Milk like any ‘average’ cleansing milk. I put a drop on a washable cotton pad and I clean my face and eyes with it before bed. Their Oil works a little differently from what I'm used to: ‘pump in my fingers twice, mix the oil with a few drops of water so that it becomes a milky substance, rub in, rinse off, put on night cream and go to bed. (Milk: €13.50 / Oil: €17.90 (200ml.)
- Hydra Protect+ night cream: If, like me, you like oilier creams, then this night cream is also your thing. It forms a blanket, so to speak, to protect and restore your skin at night. (€24.90 (50 ml.)
- Reparative cream: This is a versatile cream for the whole family. This cream is very useful for superficial cuts and abrasions but also for other blemishes such as lumps after shaving or acne (11.90 euros for 40 ml).

Organic skincare from Laboratoires de Biarritz
Summing up what you need to remember about this fine beauty brand:
- A French beauty brand with a COSMOS ORGANIC seal of approval.
- All products are based on a specific ingredient from algae. One such ingredient, for example, is Alga-Sendatu®. This is a patented extract of a seaweed from the Basque coast (Gelidium sesquipedale) and is obtained through a green extraction process, using only environmentally friendly techniques.
- Many products, such as The Cleansing Care and Hydra Protect+ line, also have the vegan seal of approval.
- A wide range of ocean-friendly sun protection with mineral filters. You can read more about sustainable sun protection here.
- Sustainable packaging: all packaging is easily recyclable, part of the packaging is made of recycled plastic, part of vegetable plastic from sugar cane, packaging is made of one type of plastic as much as possible and in the case of paper, sustainable paper with an FSC label is used. Earlier I wrote an article on impact of different plastic packaging, check it out too.
- Laboratoires de Biarritz is committed to a better planet, specifically our oceans. 1% of their profits go to sustainable projects to preserve and restore our oceans and marine life.
