Sustainable and comfortable sleep with Tuur®

Looking for a new bed, mattress, pillow or other accessories to get a good night's sleep? That too can be more sustainable! And as you've come to expect from us, we have great tips for that on the greener list too. Have you heard of Tuur®? This bed brand from Belgium has thought of all the details. Choose more sustainable and you'll sleep like a baby!

Why many beds are not sustainable

In cooperation with Tuur®

A bed is a large piece of furniture that requires a lot of materials, and transporting a bed made far away also involves a lot of transport kilometres and thus CO2 emissions and other pollution. Not to mention the material. Many cheap mattresses are made of synthetic materials such as polyurethane foam and polyester. These materials are often treated with chemicals that can be harmful to both health and the environment. And besides: the production of synthetic mattresses consumes a lot of energy and raw materials, and produces harmful emissions. Moreover, synthetic mattresses are less biodegradable, contributing to waste problems. So if you need a new bed or mattress, it's smart to make a more conscious choice. If you choose sustainability, then you choose quality. And since you spend an average of 32 years of your life in a bed - when you turn 90 - it is not crazy to choose the very best, even for your body!

Tuur®, a sustainable bed brand

Tuur® is a bed brand with a green mission: to produce high-quality, sustainable sleep products that contribute to a better world. How they do that? By producing locally in Belgium - real craftsmanship, fair conditions and few transport kilometres - and by using only the best natural materials with quality marks, making all products both comfortable and environmentally friendly. Important detail: all products are ergonomic, developed by physio- and ergotherapists. We told you you would sleep like a baby...

Tuur® offers complex (box spring) beds, as well as mattresses, bed bases, toppers, pillows, fitted sheets, mattress protectors, duvets, duvet covers and other accessories such as upholstered bedside tables and bedside lamps to match your new sustainable bed. Furthermore, the company is affiliated with ‘1% for the Planet’, which means they donate 1% of their sales to environmental projects every year.

Natural sleep

OK, sleeping on or under synthetic materials is not quite your thing. Not for yourself and certainly not for the planet. But what is better? At Tuur®, they choose the best natural materials such as duvets made of GOTS-certified organic cotton and wool, toppings including horsehair and hemp for the best moisture regulation and their flagship product: mattresses made of 100% natural latex. Natural latex is a natural material derived from the sap of the rubber tree (Hevea brasiliensis). This sap is harvested, processed and used to make latex foam used in mattresses. Natural latex is biodegradable and contains no synthetic or chemical additives, making it an eco-friendly alternative. Tuur®'s natural latex mattresses are certified to the highest environmental standards. All materials and certifications are clearly listed in their webshop. And extra nice: all mattresses are delivered and installed at home and it includes 120 days of trial sleeping.

Differences within natural latex

During your search for a sustainable mattress, you will probably come across more natural latex options. Always check carefully what kind of material is involved. Sometimes mattresses are sold as natural latex mattresses, while only a small percentage of the material is made of natural latex, the remaining materials used are often still synthetic. Also, by no means all natural latex mattresses have an eco-friendly label, which means you don't know whether this natural raw material was extracted with respect for nature and workers.

Also sleep more sustainably with Tuur®

Whether you choose a complete box spring with accessories or just a pillow or duvet, when you choose Tuur®, you know you're making a better choice. For yourself and the planet. And that sleeps a lot more comfortably. Curious? Take a look at the webshop.
