Och, with nostalgia we think back to our mini holiday at Savannah Farm Verbaarum. What a wonderful place, there in the far north. Where should we start? With the tastefully decorated glamping tents, the wood-fired hot tub in front of the door, the saunas, the home-made food or the beautiful garden?
Glamping tip in Groningen: Savannah farm Verbaarum
We ended up at Verbaarum during a road trip through northern Groningen. (You can read that trip report here.) And this really turned out to be one of those places you find by accident and never forget. Savannah farm Verbaarum is located just outside Bedum, in the yard of Remco and Christa. They run a regenerative farm, which means they not only farm sustainably, but actively help restore nature. And they do so in a special way: with a food forest and vegetable garden in one, full of edible plants, shrubs and trees that work together with the soil instead of depleting it. The food Christa lovingly prepares - home-made, organic and seasonal - also comes from this garden. And yes, her meals are simply served to your tent.

Savannah Farm Verbaarum's glamping tents are furnished with second-hand furniture, lots of sustainable details (check your compost toilet) and so you have your own private hot tub.
Small-scale nature campsite
What makes it extra charming is the small scale of this eco-address. There are only three safari tents and one tiny house, so you share the place with a few other guests at most. Each accommodation is tastefully decorated with second-hand furniture, a kitchenette, bathroom with compost toilet, and its own wood-fired hot tub. And if that's not enough: you can also use the Finnish sauna located on the property. Ideal for a chilly morning or a relaxing evening under the stars. Tip: Be sure to ask for a tour of the farmyard, as it is SO inspiring to see how farming can be done. A safari tent for two people costs from 150 euros per night (check the current prices on their site), and when occupying three or four people, there is a surcharge per extra guest.
