Such a sleek floor provides the perfect basis for a mix of old and new! Moreover, a cast floor is very practical: just a quick mop over it and you're done. But how durable is a cast floor and what choices can you make here? Spoiler: it's a fine choice!

Choosing a cast floor

In collaboration with epoxy shop.nl

Making big investments in your home is never easy. Especially a floor, which as a real eye-catcher should last for years, is an important decision. Wood floors and laminate have long been popular choices, but screed flooring has gained considerable popularity in recent years. And this is not surprising: it is stylish, low-maintenance and can be a sustainable choice. Especially if you choose a good cast floor that can last up to twenty years! That's often different with laminate anyway....

More sustainable choices with your screed

The ball is in the court: you choose a cast floor. If you want to choose a more sustainable one, it is important to check where and how it is made. The production process can make a big difference. Epoxy shop has been producing their floors in their own factory in Apeldoorn since 2008. Fine, on their own soil then - nice pun. Thanks to this local production, they have full control over the production process and their operations. For instance, they have invested in energy-efficient equipment and LED lighting. All these steps contribute to their mission to make their entire production process completely carbon-neutral in the future.

Epoxy casting resin floor, sleek and versatile choice

But which screed do you choose? One of the most commonly chosen materials is epoxy cast resin flooring. This is low-maintenance, strong and therefore durable - top - and you have it in all colours, finishes and finishes, from high gloss to matt. A cast floor made of epoxy casting resin you've probably seen it somewhere. It has a modern, seamless look and you see it in various interior styles: modern, classic, eclectic, you name it. A cast floor suits so many styles and different spaces: in an office, music studio or as a bedroom floor. Right: resin art, the material of cast floors is also used in art.

Clean your cast floor more environmentally consciously

  • Choose an eco-friendly cleaning product: use an all-purpose cleaner with a seal of approval such as the EU Ecolabel, so you put less harmful substances into the environment. A handy list of better cleaning products can be found here.
  • Use a mild detergent: choose detergents without synthetic additives, such as fragrances and dyes, to avoid microplastics.
  • Watch out for microplastics: avoid cleaning products with synthetic fragrances or dyes to avoid microplastics.
  • Use a mop made of natural materials: choose one made of cotton or bamboo, which do not release microplastics when used.
  • Little water needed: thanks to the seamless structure of a cast floor, a damp mop will suffice.

Durable and easy-care

Epoxy cast resin floors are known for their long lifespan. Whereas other floors, such as laminate, usually need to be replaced after only five years, cast flooring lasts up to 20 years. Maintenance is minimal. Sanding or oiling, as with wooden floors, is not necessary, and any scratches can easily be polished. Epoxy shop: ‘Despite epoxy cast resin being a plastic, you don't have to worry about microplastics. The floor forms a hard, seamless layer that does not release microplastics in normal use. The risk of wear and tear caused by microplastics is minimal due to the robustness of the material, so a cast floor remains a sustainable and eco-friendly choice.’

Versatility of epoxy casting resin: from flooring to resin art

Did you know that epoxy casting resin is not only suitable for floors? Also for creative projects such as resin art this material is used. In this art form, epoxy is used to create decorative objects such as coasters, tables and jewellery. The material is loved for its hard, scratch-resistant finish, which makes creations last as long as cast floors. And honestly... the result looks great too.

Cast floor also more economical in the long run?

When choosing a new floor, it is understandable that price is often a deciding factor. Nevertheless, it is smart to also include the long term in your considerations. A floor that needs to be replaced relatively quickly can cost more in the long run than one that lasts for years. Cast epoxy resin floors are known for their longevity and minimal maintenance. While the initial investment may be higher, the durability means you are less likely to face replacement or major repairs. Thus, a cast floor can prove to be a much more economical and also a more durable choice in the long run. Interested in a cast floor? The experts at Epoxywinkel are here to help!
