Sustainable office design tips.

Cool ideas for sustainable office design

You can also decorate your (home) office more sustainably. And more sustainable means more fun, more original and often cheaper. Why buy everything new? In this article, we share tips for beautiful, sustainable office design!

Sustainable office design

When you think of sustainable office design, you quickly think of lots of wood, plants and very expensive circular furniture. If your business is doing well, it's certainly cool to turn your office into a urban jungle to create extraordinary design objects. Go for it! Unfortunately, such a hip office is not for everyone. As an entrepreneur, you might not even have an office and work at home in a space that looks a lot like a walk-in closet. Especially for those entrepreneurs who want to bring a lot of flavour to their (home) office with few resources, we share these tips. We want to show you that everyone can enjoy a greener, more sustainable office design. Because more sustainable is more original and more atmospheric. And well, it really doesn't have to cost the principal. Quite the contrary!

Go for second-hand office supplies

A laptop, keyboard, printer, ergonomic office chair... You read it, the headquarters of thegreenlist.nl is full of second-hand stuff. So, that has been a big saving! Not only for my wallet, it has also saved resources for the planet. Electrical appliances in particular - with all those small parts - are incredibly taxing to make. We sometimes get back from readers and followers that they find it exciting to make these kinds of big purchases second-hand. Suppose a device has a hidden defect and no longer works (properly)? We get that and that's why we have a handy checklist prepared What's best to buy where to score the best second-hand gadgets and electronics.

Bonus tip 1: a (too) crazy little painting, a vintage vase, a wall hanging, plants, you name it... You can often find great accessories and furniture for your new sustainable office at the second-hand shop. Bonus tip 2: do you find second-hand shopping difficult because there are so many different items on offer? Then create a mood board on Pinterest to help you find furniture, colours and materials. Bonus tip 3: upcycle what you have. Often a lick of paint can do wonders and give a room or piece of furniture a totally different look. For inspiration, have a look at The Vintage Vibe.

Second-hand plants in your new sustainable office

Did you know that plants are important helpers for fresh air in an indoor space? Air-purifying houseplants convert CO2 into oxygen and bring water vapour into the air. This, in turn, is good for the humidity of your sustainable (home) office. OK, so more plants. But pooh, plants are pretty expensive. Good news: you can also find plants second-hand. There are many people who want to get rid of their plant because it has grown too big for their home, or because they are travelling, moving house or come to the conclusion that being a plant parent is not for them. You can often take over the plant with pot and all at once via Marktplaats or Plantigo, the platform for second-hand plants. It is almost always a lot cheaper than in shops, especially the yucky ones that people are keen to get rid of.

There are also Facebook groups where you can buy or exchange houseplants and cuttings. Should you decide to go for new houseplants anyway, buy them eco-friendly and organically grown. At Sprinklr you can even order organic plants online and have them delivered to your home. Well-known air-purifying houseplants are the spoon plant, curly and blue fern, sansevieria, golden palm, monstera, rubber plant, ficus and violet leaf plant.
