Stayokay Dordrecht wrap house.

Nature experience in a wrap house at Stayokay Dordrecht

We know Stayokay mainly as the affordable hostel chain for your city breaks - and yes, we're fans. But did you know they also have places where you can stay overnight in the middle of nature? In Dordrecht, for example, right on the water in National Park De Biesbosch. That's where the so-called Wikkelhouses are located: tiny houses with great views and built from a circular idea. We spent a night there and returned home completely zen. Swimming, cycling, canoeing: and all in addition to your city break Dordrecht. What a combo!

Sleeping in a house made of cardboard (yes, really!)

In cooperation with Stayokay

Hidden among the greenery, on the grounds of Stayokay Dordrecht, are four sustainable tiny houses that make your heart jump immediately: the Wraphouses. These compact houses are largely made of recyclable cardboard - really - and reinforced with wood. Completely waterproof so no worries, and fully equipped. Each cottage accommodates four people and is surprisingly complete. You will find an Auping double bed, bunk beds, your own bathroom, a mini kitchen with fridge and even a Nespresso machine. Oh, and you also get a well-stocked breakfast basket. No TV by the way, but who needs one when you can step straight into the grass with your bare feet in the morning? Really just back to nature, but with air conditioning and a heater.

Fell in love with The Wraphouses? We get it. But Stayokay Dordrecht has even more cool places to sleep on the same site. At this hostel, you can also stay in modern private rooms with private bathroom. It comes with a delicious breakfast, and you can visit the cosy bar or the waterside terrace, the view of de Biesbosch is enviably beautiful. Prefer to hit the road with your own tent or motorhome? Good news: Stayokay Dordrecht is the only hostel in the Netherlands with a own campsite. Whatever you choose, you stay here in the middle of nature and everything breathes sustainability. From the bamboo façade and green roof to the solar panels and even its own bee hive. And that does not go unnoticed: in 2024, this place won the Plastic Free Award. Rightly so, if you ask us.

Stayokay Dordrecht is located in the Biesbosch. From your wrap-around house (or tent, caravan or room), you can jump straight into the water or hire a sup or canoe.

Sustainable, but with a wink

At Stayokay, they take sustainability seriously, but do so in their own down-to-earth way: no-nonsense, practical and always with a smile. No finger-pointing, just smart reminders to go that little bit greener. A sticker in the shower with ‘It's okay to sing, but keep it short!’ or a friendly nudge to turn down the heating. And yes, they are also doing good on the toilet: there is toilet paper from The Good Roll - recycled, plastic-free and with a mission.

What does a night at Stayokay Dordrecht cost?

And what about the prices? Those are as relaxed as the atmosphere. A night in a Wikkelhouse (two nights minimum) costs on average between 400 and 500 euros for the entire stay. But then you are also sitting first row in nature, including a breakfast basket. Those who want to spend a little less can stay in a double room in the hostel for around 100 euros per night, or in a family room from around 150 euros. And do you have your own tent? You can set that up for as little as 20 euros a night. Check the current prices on the website of Stayokay. Plus point: on site you can also rent canoes and SUPs from Drive Dordrecht. So hup, onto the water!

More great nights at Stayokay?

Like us, do you get excited by these kinds of original and accessible overnight stays? Then we have some more fine tips to add to your Stayokay list. We previously stayed at Stayokay Haarlem (in an old school), Utrecht Centre (right on the Neude), Rotterdam (in the iconic cube houses) and The Hague (near the beach and the city). They are all slightly different, but all surprisingly sustainable and cosy. Highly recommended.
