If you like to barbecue on charcoal at home, we have a tip. There is a new type of charcoal that not only burns cleaner, but also gives off significantly less smoke and odour. Nice, also for the neighbours. We are talking about the new Pure Charcoal From Big Green Egg.
More grilling pleasure: barbecuing with fewer emissions
In partnership with Big Green Egg
Anyone who sometimes lights a barbecue will recognise this: the fun is great, but your clothes still smell of smoke for days. Big Green Egg wants to do something about it with Pure Charcoal. This is a new type of charcoal that burns cleaner and is almost odourless. How is this possible? The renowned Fraunhofer Institute researched it and concluded that Pure Charcoal emits up to 82% less fine dust and 62% less nitrogen. The reason? A new charring process that removes volatiles - which normally cause smoke and odour - from the wood before it burns at all. Result: cleaner combustion, less mess in the air and less nuisance for your environment.
What is actually in that cabbage?
When choosing charcoal, you might first think about how well it burns, but it is also important to consider where the wood comes from. Because by no means all charcoal comes from responsibly harvested wood. For this, too, you are Pure Charcoal good. This cabbage is made from a carefully composed mix of European oak, beech and hornbeam. All FSC-certified. That means: the wood comes from sustainably managed forests where felling is done with care and new trees are planted. And it also burns smartly. The lighter beech ensures that your barbecue heats up quickly, while the heavier oak and hornbeam ensure that the heat stays on for a long time. Handy if you want to chat a bit more or put your aubergines on the grill a bit later than planned.

Grilling greener is how you do it
A cleaner charcoal will get you a long way, but what you put on the grill also counts heavily. Fortunately, vegetarian barbecuing is no longer limited to a baguette with herb butter and a vegetarian burger. Think skewers with vegetables and halloumi cheese, portobello mushrooms with goat cheese and honey, green asparagus, grilled peaches and even a vegetable burgers and sausages that stay really juicy. And the nice thing is: with a charcoal that barely smokes, you taste your dish the way it was meant to be. Curious? Pure Charcoal by Big Green Egg is available from official dealers and costs €37.50 for a nine-kilo bag.
