Butterfly Garden Mot in Mokum.

Sustainable outing in Amsterdam: Mot butterfly garden in Mokum

We have another one: a hidden gem. And this time in Amsterdam North. There you will find Butterfly Garden Mot in Mokum, where butterfly man Nicky puts his heart and soul into caring for the city's butterflies and bees. Will you come and flutter too?

Butterfly garden in Amsterdam!

Amsterdam has a beautiful butterfly garden: Mot in Mokum. A butterfly paradise where the lemon butterfly, atalanta and the little fox flutter around freely. Amazing! That makes our green hearts leap. Created by butterflyman Nicky Castricum, this special garden provides a safe haven for caterpillars and butterflies in Amsterdam. The garden, located at urban agriculture project North Harvest on Meteorenweg, covers no less than eight hundred square metres, a green oasis where you can learn how to make your garden attractive to butterflies from May to September.

It regularly organises fun events such as a butterfly outing, a butterfly night with the moths, a workshop on making bee hotels, an urban gardening course or a butterfly lecture. Cool: Nicky also regularly sells organic cuttings and plants that will make the butterflies in your garden very happy. So you can get started right away with all your newly acquired knowledge!

Exciting: experiencing a butterfly night at Mot in Mokum.

Why are places like Mot in Mokum important?

Butterflies are not only beautiful to look at but also indispensable in our natural environment. As pollinators, they ensure the survival of flowers, plants and food crops. Without them, many of the fruits and vegetables we eat every day would disappear. In addition, butterflies are a kind of thermometer for nature: they indicate how healthy an environment is because they react quickly to changes. Unfortunately, butterflies are having a tough time. Their habitat is shrinking due to the disappearance of flower-rich nature, the use of pesticides, and farming methods such as monoculture - where large areas of land are used for only one crop. Places like Mot in Mokum show that everyone, even in the middle of the city, can make a difference. They not only offer butterflies a home, but also help keep our ecosystem in balance. And that is essential for a healthy future!
