Breakfast, a fun craft from my son and a present: this is the Mother's Day playbook at our house every year. I think it will be no different for many young families. Lovely isn't it? And yet, we have changed the playbook slightly in the last two years. We celebrate it more sustainably, but with just as much fun. And that includes a more sustainable present. In my case, that is often a nice bottle of wine from the Netherlands. You can't make me happier. A pretty lipstick for Mother's Day
You can make many women happy with a pretty lipstick. Are you or do you know such a mother? Then I have a nice Mother's Day gift tip: Velvet Wear lipstick from organic beauty brand Madara Cosmetics. In fact, it turns out to be quite difficult to make red lipsticks more sustainable. Either they are vegan, but then the red colour is usually made from synthetics. Or the lipsticks are not vegan because the red colour comes from carmine, a type of louse. Madara Cosmetics has spent three years researching a sustainable alternative: a natural vegan lipstick made from radish and sapwood, among other ingredients, for the red colour. Unique handmade ceramics from Portugal
Could mum use some new crockery? Then handmade tableware from Portugal by the brand Motel a Miio a great idea. In the shop, you will find a wide selection of cups, mugs, plates, vases, egg cups and complete tableware sets. This tableware ticks all the sustainable boxes: it is made locally, fairly and eco-friendly in a workshop that runs on solar energy, all the water is reycled and reused. The glaze is free of harmful substances and metals. And yes, it can definitely go in the dishwasher too.

For mums who value good skincare, I have a really super nice tip. When I put out a call on Instagram for great sustainable Mother's Day gifts, all mums unanimously agreed. The very best gift you can give a mother on Mother's Day is time. Some mums think the ultimate gift is to have some time alone to do something, while others choose to do something special with the children on Mother's Day. Spending time together costs nothing and can easily be done in a sustainable way, such as a picnic, a bike ride or a delicious family lunch at a sustainable restaurant.
