Eating out sustainably is getting easier and easier, also in Gouda. From vega(n) lunch spots to restaurants working with seasonal products and local suppliers: there is surprisingly much choice in the city of cheeses. Lauri often visits the Green Heart and has picked the best places for you where you can eat with a good feeling.
Nice restaurants in Gouda
Gouda is known for its cheese and syrup waffles, but of course you can enjoy many more treats in this cosy historical city. Maybe you would like to visit Museum Gouda (there is a basement with real torture instruments!), admire all the art in the old town or enjoy a nice show at the Goudse Schouwburg. Before, between or after, you will of course want to have a nice drink or enjoy a meal somewhere. These are the sustainable restaurant tips!
Miss Nice Banana
Contrary to what the name might suggest, you can enjoy much more than just banana ice cream here. What you can find at Miss Nice Banana? Delicious plant-based and gluten-free dishes! And a slice of holiday, as you immediately get into tropical atmospheres with the décor and Caribbean music. From sushi bowl and hair salon to coco loco pancakes and ricepaper dumplings. All delicious! This little joint is not very big, so if you come with more than five people then it is useful to make a reservation. Otherwise, you can just come by and enjoy! If the weather is nice, you can also do so on a nice and cosy terrace.

Patisserie Spring
This patisserie is the sister of Banketbakkerij Herfst. They got more and more requests there for products without milk/en or egg. And thought: we would also like to make these customers happy with delicious pastries. That is how Patisserie Spring born! What's special about this place: at Lente, they make traditional pastries, only vegan. And they do it so well that you can't taste the difference with ‘the original’. Cool, isn't it? You can order the pastries (or rather, works of art) online and collect them, but the place also has a number of tables where you can enjoy all the goodies right away. But then you have to be able to choose. Tricky, though!
Zeugstraat 66, Gouda

You can have breakfast there all day (we always like it!) with smoothie bowls, bagels, crumpets, or just cake. Why not too! Also a fun place to go to with kids or adolescents: as you can order freak shakes here. Those glasses jam-packed with ice cream, candyfloss, sweets, sauce and other sweets. Not quite your thing? A dirty chai latte or latte macchiato will do, of course! Want to explore Gouda further by bike after your breakfast or lunch? Then you can hire a nice one at Keck. Ideal! Just make a reservation.

At Vegan Africa you will find plenty of traditional African dishes and then completely vegan! The meals are made with fresh, local ingredients and all look very colourful. And what's nice and easy about this restaurant: you just order the chef's surprise and then you get lots of delicious little dishes. For example, aubergine or courgette in spicy tomato sauce, lentils with garlic or finely ground chickpeas. All served with indjeras. This is a bit like a Dutch pancake. Want to eat gluten-free? No point, that too is possible! Have Eritrean coffee or tea after dinner and your evening is complete.

IJsselhuis
The IJsselhuis is the home of chef Herman Winkelman. He loves vegetables and prepares a delicious three-course menu every Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Brunch is also available on Saturday & Sunday! The menu is often decided on the day itself, so you don't know in advance what you will eat. Exciting! And would you like to eat plant-based, vegetarian or low gluten? Of course you can. Just let us know when you make your reservation so that the kitchen can take it into account. The IJssel House can be found in an original bargeman's quay in Gouda harbour, where local dishes are combined with ingredients from further afield.
