The birth of a new global citizen is something special. Just like the first birthday. These special events call for a celebration. Would you like to arrive with an original and durable gift that the child will enjoy for a long time? Then you have come to the right place at Meneer Koekepeer. In the Meneer Koekepeer webshop, you will find the most beautiful surprise packages for babies and toddlers, where sustainability is of paramount importance. Kirsten spoke to Suzanne to find out more about Meneer Koekepeer.
The genesis of Mister Cowpoke
In collaboration with Mister Cowpoke
How many times have you received a present you actually thought, ‘What should I do with it?’ Suzanne and her boyfriend Marc heard this all too often from parents around them. When they became parents themselves, they asked for money for washable nappies as maternity gifts, to avoid getting unnecessary presents too. Still, Suzanne thought that was a shame, because she does love a surprise. And so the idea of Meneer Koekepeer was born: surprise packages with sustainable children's gifts that are nice to get and really useful. Suzanne: ‘The packages are as sustainable as possible and we want to inspire other parents with products that are just that little bit different. Meneer Koekepeer's products are sustainable, timeless and suitable for every child’.’
Durable and timeless gifts for every child
The products in Mr Koekepeer's packages are carefully selected for quality and durability. Suzanne and Marc think carefully about whether each gift will last and can be passed on to the next child. So you will only find gifts with neutral colours, which are not personalised. Because they like to inspire parents with gifts that are just that little bit different, the shop also offers handmade and second-hand gifts. Suzanne hopes to offer more and more second-hand gifts. A customer recently wrote on an order for a letterbox package that they love old stuff and vintage items. I really liked that because I could totally indulge in that. In the end, I had found four small gifts, including an inlay puzzle with four animals and the name in wooden scrabble letters.‘
How exactly do Mr Koekepeer's surprise packages work?
In the Mister Cuckoo's webshop you can pick and order the nicest gifts yourself. But you can also go for a surprise package. Ideal if you're short on time, or if you need a gift for someone you don't know very well. At Meneer Koekepeer, no two packages are the same. In fact, each surprise pack is put together individually based on a number of questions, such as the age of the child, what colour style you want and whether you also want second-hand or handmade products in the pack. You can also choose a number of categories: decoration, toys, grooming or food and drink. This way, you can be sure that the gift will exactly match the parents' wishes.
Not just sustainable gifts, but doing business as sustainably as possible
Not only are the gifts in the packages sustainable, but Suzanne and Marc are trying to pay more and more attention to sustainability in their entire business. Suzanne: ‘We don't wrap the presents loose and the material of our flyers, stickers and packaging is all recycled. We try to pay attention to sustainability as much as possible before we buy things, although sometimes it is difficult to be sure whether the production process of certain things is completely sustainable. Furthermore, we only have a small stock of all products. And if a parcel is ordered in Utrecht, we deliver it by bicycle’. Suzanne and Marc try to live as sustainably as possible at home, and this is clearly reflected in their business.

Have you tasted the ‘Cowslips’ yet?
Koekekeertjes are little mice, but with a difference. When they became parents themselves, Suzanne and Marc thought it was a pity that only pink and blue mice were available and that the sex of the baby was so obvious. They preferred to celebrate the birth of a new human being. In collaboration with Stadsgenootjes, they ended up developing their own sprinkles: the Koekepeertjes. These have the colours ochre, rust and olive: Mr Koekepeer's house colours. The Koekepeertjes taste like aniseed like mice, but are not as hard. Ideal if you have small children coming to visit, who also want to eat a rusk with you. Koekepeertjes are also gluten-free and vegan. Suzanne: ‘There are people who can never eat rusks with mice, but they can eat the Koekepeertjes.’ Curious about the Koekepeertjes? You can buy them Order on the website of Mister Cuckooberry. You will also find a sample bag in all surprise and gift packs. With a bit of luck, there will even be a whole box in your surprise package. Cowpeas are also delicious on bread or through yoghurt.
