If you can do one thing that contributes to a green, better future anyway, it is to plant a tree. Despite all the innovations, trees remain the most beautiful solution for absorbing and reducing CO2. That's why we were so happy when thegreenlist.nl received a beautiful tree as a gift from agroforestry organisation Treedom. But Treedom goes further: it also gives a future to local farmers. A tree from Treedom is a gift for yourself, a gift for someone else and a gift for a sustainable future all in one!
Trees are important for the future
In partnership with Treedom
Trees are of great importance for nature, climate and people on this planet. Because trees purify the air we breathe. And trees absorb CO2 and store it in the wood. They are also the habitat for other plants and animals and thus a linchpin for ecosystems in many landscapes. Trees increase biodiversity. Planting trees prevents soil erosion, deforestation and desertification. And trees with fruit provide food and livelihoods for families and local communities. Planting trees through Treedom thus contributes to a brighter future in all these areas.
Who are Treedom?
Treedom builds sustainable ecosystems by planting trees. But not just any trees; the right tree, in the right place at the right time. You can't plant every tree in every place. And a tree also needs to be maintained by people with knowledge. That means they work with farmers in 17 countries in Africa, Latin America and Asia. Treedom helps local farmers plant trees, trains farmers in tree maintenance and provides technical support. In this way, they help farmers plant the trees to have an income and food security for the future. This not only makes Treedom an eco-friendly initiative, but gives it a huge social and economic impact in local communities. Since 2010, Treedom has already planted more than three million trees. And within three years, their ambition is to have ten million trees planted! Since 2014, Treedom has been B-corp certified, underlining their social and sustainable impact.

Give a tree from Treedom as a gift!
How does Treedom work?
Treedom gives you the opportunity to buy a tree in one of their agroforestry projects. The chosen tree is planted and cared for by local farmers on behalf of the buyer. Treedom's website allows you to see and track your own tree or trees. You will see your own tree with geocode and photo as soon as it is planted. You also get regular updates on the project, to which the tree belongs. In the case of fruit trees, the local farmer uses the fruit for food and to sell. With this agroforestry project, you contribute to a greener world, but also to the life of the farmer who manages the trees. You give another person a chance for a bright future. Not only can you buy a tree for yourself, but you can also give it as a gift to someone else. That really makes it a gift with a future!

Treedom allows you to keep track of your tree: it is photographed and geotagged. You will also receive regular updates on the project your tree is part of.
Gift for the future with a tree
A Treedom tree is a wonderful gift for the future. The recipient sees where the tree is and how it grows. Giving a tree as a gift is quite simply. You choose your tree. Choose from a variety of trees; from fruit trees with avocados or mangoes to Baobab trees. You pay for your tree and write a message for the recipient. You give the gift by e-mail or on a paper card. I received a cocoa tree in Cameroon. Our children named the tree and looked at where the tree was planted. So you get a nice insight into the local (positive) impact of the tree. That makes Treedom different from organisations for carbon offsetting. It is much more personal because you can see where your tree is and how it is doing. You can also see in your own profile how much CO2 has been absorbed and who manages your tree. It's very special to stay involved up close like that.
Sustainable gift with Treedom
By giving a Treedom tree as a gift, you are giving a gift for the future. You contribute to more biodiversity, CO2 storage and combat soil erosion and deforestation. You also give a local farmer a better future with the tree you plant. This Christmas, give a special Christmas gift such as a Palm tree in Guatamala, a Mango tree in Thailand or a Coffee tree in Madagascar. This is how you give a sustainable gift!
