This is one that makes our green hearts beat faster: a recycling shop in the heart of Amsterdam where residents can easily hand in their waste separately. From textiles and e-waste to plastic packaging and deep-frying fat: everything that can normally only be handed in at the recycling centre is cleverly collected here. And it gets even better: you get a small fee per kilogram of waste handed in, as well as a bulk deposit machine. No more hassle with loose bottles and cans: Droppie makes recycling easier and more fun!
Why Droppie provides relief
In a city like Amsterdam, where space is scarce and recycling centres are often located far out of town, recycling shop Droppie makes recycling accessible and attractive for everyone. Would you like to hand in your separated waste on your bicycle around the corner? Ideal! The small fee per kilo is also a good reason to make this diversions more often. Recycling is important because raw materials are becoming increasingly scarce and extracting and producing them puts a lot of pressure on the environment. By separating and reusing waste, materials stay in the cycle longer and we reduce waste. We predict - and cross our fingers - that recycling shops will soon have a permanent place in the cityscape. Tobacconists out, recycling shops in!
Quick deposit return with Dropper, the bulk machine
At Droppie's recycling shop, you will find the ‘Dropper’, a bulk machine that allows you to return your deposit in large quantities in one go. The handy thing is that you can hand in up to two hundred cans and bottles in one go. Empty your bag, it may just fall into the bin mixed up! The Dropper does not tout an old-fashioned packaging receipt, but the payment goes hipperdepip via the Dropper app you download on your smartphone. After you have handed in your bottles and the amount has been calculated by the Dropper, you scan the QR code with the Droppie app. After that, you have two options: have the amount paid via Tikkie to your bank account, or choose to donate it to the charity of your choice. This way, you not only turn recycling into something easy, but also something fun and meaningful!

Visiting Droppie to try the Dropper for yourself, among other things: tip a bag of deposit cans and bottles into a bin and the dropper does the figuring-out and calculating.
