Because of their track record, they always have cool input, beautiful second-hand branded clothes that is. Not from the area? No worries, because the enterprising ladies Sharon and Loyce also sell via Instagram and Facebook where they regularly showcase the best gems from their collection.
TOF Diemen: a second-hand shop everyone loves to visit
Through my Instagram community, I know that some women find second-hand shopping difficult. They want to feel and try on clothes, so those handy apps are already off the table for them. And they don't like thrift shops at all: too confusing and not enough personal advice. So they prefer new clothes and often the choice is fast fashion. And then they regret it because they do want to choose more sustainable. A second-hand boutique is ideal for exactly this type of shopper and for anyone who likes to score second-hand pearls.
One of my favourite shops is TOF Diemen because they have a lovely spacious and bright shop, with beautiful inputs, gigantic mirrors and a dose of energy to help you. In the middle of the shop is a cosy dining table where everyone can sit down for a cup of coffee (ideal for the men too). What more could you want? Well, that the ladies have done a colouring and styling course so they can help you even better? They also took that course at Danie Bles a long time ago. Second-hand shopping with a good feeling
‘Our mission is that we are a shop where three generations of women can shop well, both teenagers and their mothers and grandmothers. With that view, we curate all the clothes we get in, because by no means everything makes it to the shop,’ says Sharon. ‘We really want to be a shop for the modern woman. So you won't see a lot of vintage at our store anytime soon, but you will see the nice contemporary brands and a selection of designer clothes. We have a separate section at the back of the shop for that. We really want to be a shop for everyone and show that there is already so much beauty in the world. You don't have to buy everything new. Besides, second-hand also saves you a lot of money, because with us you pay an average of 30% of the new price for something nice,’ Loyce adds.
The ladies also noticed how much the quality of clothes has deteriorated. Loyce: ‘We really have to refuse more fast fashion than a few years ago, simply for the reason that the quality is too poor. It strikes me especially with jeans and some polyester clothes. The quality is really not what it once was.’
A good idea for unsold clothes
Of course, it happens that not all clothes are sold and sometimes garments are brought in that are not good enough for the shop, but that the person bringing them in does not want to take back either. The ladies donate that to the Food Bank, because people there are incredibly helped by good clothes and that way nothing has to go to waste.
