Quite a shame, because a handwritten card for the holidays or a birthday feels just a bit more personal, right? We throw in another twist and show you how to make (and give) your own cards from old magazines!

This DIY to make your own cards from old paper is a great idea for the holidays or handy to make in batches and have in your cupboard, so you always have something lying around when it's someone's birthday. Tip: Don't have any old magazines? Then ask around neighbours or nose around flea markets and thrift shops. There is plenty on offer!

Making your own birthday and Christmas cards

Tools

  • magazines(Flow or another magazine with solid pages is top)
  • A5-size cardboard or sturdy paper or blank cards(also to be found in the thrift store)
  • glue stick
  • scissors
  • optional: stickers, buttons, washi tape, coloured markers for decoration

Instructions

  • Browse through magazines and choose pictures you like. Cut them out or carefully tear them out for an artistic white border.
  • Make the base card: fold the A5 cardboard in half for a double card.
  • Choose and paste pictures or strips of paper in colours that match the card to make the whole thing nicely cohesive.
  • Optional: decorate the card with stickers or tape and write on it!

Cut leftover cardboard into smaller sizes to make mini cards or gift tags. This is how to give each gift an extra personal touch!
