Plastic-free personal care products are always good right? Nope, so unfortunately you can't put it that way. If only it were that easy! And yet there are beautiful, more sustainable care products that are both plastic-free and more sustainable, because in the end, it's all about the ingredients. These must be good, safe and fairly sourced. Together with Holland & Barrett, we share some great plastic-free tips for the sink and shower.
What is more sustainable care?
In collaboration with Holland & Barrett
When talking about more sustainable grooming, many people think of less plastic packaging, such as choosing shampoo bars, hand soap and toothpaste tablets. And while producing less plastic waste is certainly a good idea, more sustainable care really needs to look at more things than just the packaging. So a plastic-free soap may fall into the category of more sustainable, but it doesn't have to be. Unfortunately, there is also a lot of greenwashing, products seem sustainable and better for nature, but they are not. Confusing? Not so bad! We get you started with some great plastic-free options whose contents also fit the greener list. Do you know these fine sustainable personal care products if?
More sustainable personal care products: tips!
- Shampoo bars are popular. And we totally get it! Such cosy hair soaps look much nicer in your bathroom - goodbye plastic bottles - and they clean your hair just as well. But because there is so much choice, there are unfortunately some brands that have only made the packaging more sustainable, while the content is not necessarily more sustainable. Oy, we don't want those. At Holland & Barrett, you'll find a diverse range of fine shampoo bars such as from vegan beauty brand Ethique which is a favourite with many followers of thegreenlist.nl or De Tuinen's affordable hair soaps with mostly natural ingredients. Their Dead Sea shampoo bar has been voted house brand product of the year 2022.
- Soap bars are also back with a vengeance, because you can also wash your body with a nice bar of soap and avoid a lot of waste in the process. If you also want to switch or are always looking for tasty soap bars, check out the soap bars even. De Tuinen's Aleppo Soap is a personal favourite. This soap is artisan-made and sun-dried and consists of 100% olive oil, without perfume, preservatives and synthetic additives. But there is much more to discover.
- Finally, there is much more to swapping. Are you still using oldskool toothpaste and want to get rid of it because many toothpastes contain microplastics and you don't like the tubes? Then consider toothpaste tablets. Smyle's tablets are microplastic-free, but do contain fluoride as your dentist would like and they come in a glass bottle that you can refill.
