Sola eco-friendly pans in kitchen.

Eco-friendly pan tip: Sola

At thegreenlist.nl we got rid of our old pans some time ago when we discovered that old frying pans with a non-stick coating contained PFAS. And so we started looking for better models for cooking. One of the discoveries was Sola. This typically Dutch brand of pans has been around for over a hundred years and is even a purveyor to the royal household. We are happy to tell you more about these pans that definitely belong in the greener list!

Affordable pan brand for hobby cooks

In cooperation with Sola

What material are the pans made of, where and how are they produced, which company is behind them and how long do they last, judging from other people's experiences? When looking for new pans, these are the questions you need to ask to make a good choice. In this case, a good quality choice, is also immediately a sustainable choice. The pans from Sola meet all these criteria and the choice is vast: from small saucepans to large saucepans and even for kitchen knives, chopping boards, baking moulds, spatulas and many more needed you can go to Sola. A one-stop-shop so for hobby cooks and professional chefs. When can we come for dinner?

Durable pans from Sola

What do you get when you go for a pan or pan set from Sola. We've figured it out for you:

  • Large range of pans, pan sets and accessories: an affordable solution for every kitchen and heat source. Great, because pans can be very expensive.
  • Primal Dutch craftsmanship: a Zeist-based family business that has been producing pans for more than a hundred years and is even purveyor to our royal household.
  • All Sola products are made of quality materials such as stainless steel, cast iron, aluminium and carbon plate steel.
  • You can admire the collection in the showroom in Zeist, which is also where it all started in 1922.
  • The pans are produced in Europe, including in Italy.
  • Since 2018, Sola has been a member of Amfori BSCI. This organisation is committed to fair and sustainable trade and good cooperation with all suppliers in the chain. Top!
  • Of course, all pans from Sola are safe and free of PFOA, PFAS and PFTE. Otherwise we would never tip them of course... Frying pans use a ceramic non-stick coating and Tri-ply. (Tri-ply is a three-layer material that ensures a pan heats up quickly and evenly. Because of this optimal conductivity, about 30% less energy is consumed).
  • Most pans can simply go in the dishwasher - although hand dishwashing is always better for pans (this applies to all pans, regardless of brand).

Durable pans from Sola

In short, quite a list with which Sola ticks all the sustainable boxes. And did you know that some pans, such as the Onyx frying pan, are also popular among professional chefs? What makes this pan special is that it is already burnt in with a vegetable oil, making the frying layer immediately ready for use. This allows this pan to handle very high temperatures, quickly searing the dish in the pan and leaving a nice crust. We would know how we would fry that celeriac crispy....
