Sustainable shopping at a big discount? Yes, of course we're up for that. It's possible at Foodello! The closer the THT date approaches, the higher the discount. On the website, you order what you like and within a few days your order will be on your doorstep. Reducing food waste has never been easier. At thegreenlist.nl we are om. And that discount? In our case, it amounted to 50%. Yummy!
We go shopping Foodello
Superfine, at Foodello you can shop online at a big discount. How is that possible? The Finnish-Dutch company buys up batches of food and drink that supermarkets can no longer sell. Usually, the reason is that the THT date is about to expire or has passed, but yes that says nothing at all. That abbreviation stands for ‘best before’, so even after that date, food can be enjoyed for weeks, months and sometimes years. In fact, sometimes a date is written on it because it has to be and food and drink has no expiry date at all.
So it's mainly long-life products you buy at Foodello. Bake-off rolls, sauces, coffee, spreads: typical things from the stock cupboard. Sometimes you will receive products whose THT date is far from expired. Perhaps then there is a mistake on the packaging or the company has a new logo. Unsellable, people think. Ridiculous really, if you think about it longer.... To the rescue so!

Sustainable shopping at Foodello: including plant-based milk and fair trade coffee.
Sustainable groceries at a discount
Four bags of fair trade coffee beans, four packs of organic soy milk, two packs of oat milk and a pack of Rainforest Alliance labelled hagelsag. With help from Foodello, I replenished our store cupboards. And sustainable too, because in the webshop you can find beautiful products with a hallmark and ingredients that fit well with a vegetarian or vegan diet. I filled my basket with products that would cost almost 70 euros in a ‘normal’ supermarket, but because I saved it from waste at Foodello, I only paid half. I lost 33 euros.
Sprinkles for one cent, organic soy milk for 25 cents
The closer to THT date, the more discount you get at Foodello. And that works well. In a normal supermarket, you might stick your whole arm into the shelf looking for the product with the expiry date. At Foodello, you look for today's or yesterday's date to get more discounts. For example, I bought long-life organic soy milk with a THT date of a month ago for 25 cents. Long-life (soy) milk can be used unopened for at least two months after the THT date has passed. At our house, this milk still comes up in coffee, milkshakes or other dishes. The organic fair trade coffee beans still have a shelf life of several months. Maybe there is a misprint on the packaging. I have not been able to detect it...
Super deals from Foodello

Have I managed to enthuse you a little to go shopping at Foodello? Don't forget to check out the ‘superdeals’, which is how I found sprinkles for one cent. Of those superdeals, you are usually only allowed to buy one per person.
My experience with Foodello?
My experience? I think we can be brief about this: great! Foodello has a wide range of tasty and convenient groceries, it is cheaper than the supermarket and you are sustainable with your purchases. And I also like the company behind it. They offset all their business activities such as transport, storage, packaging, which makes them CO2 neutral. They don't offset by planting new trees like many other sustainable companies. Instead, they protect Finnish forests by delaying felling, because old trees are better CO2 hoovers.
Your order will be delivered via PostNL. The expected delivery time is between one and three days. And last but not least, delivery is free for orders of 35 euros or more. See more about Foodello.
