Selling on Vinted: roadmap

‘If you dont wear it, sell it!’, the slogan is probably already singing through your head while reading this article. But is it really as simple to sell your clothes on Vinted as Vinted would have you believe? If you follow the steps below, it certainly is! First of all, you need a profile. Create a personal Vinted profile in minutes, Vinted is simply free. Then you can get started filling your online wardrobe and wait for your first buyers. During the sales process on Vinted, you follow a number of steps. Do you follow these sales steps? Then your sale will undoubtedly take off. Here are a few tips to help you sell even better on Vinted.

1. Personalise your Vinted profile

People buy from people. The more personal your seller profile on Vinted, the more trust you inspire and the more people will want to dive into your online wardrobe. Use these simple tips to make your profile as personal as possible:

  • Why are you a fan of Vinted? What is your best find on Vinted? By filling out your profile under ‘About me’, you make yourself a bit more human.
  • Add a profile picture (recognisable or not).
  • Including your hometown in your profile will make you more findable and sell faster, as a hometown can be a keyword of sellers.
  • Give buyers enough choice in parcel services. Make it easy on yourself, but don't eliminate too many services. I personally like to ship via Homerr. Homerr is durable and cheap and you don't need a printer at home.

Selling on Vinted: verify your account

If you want to sell clothes online through Vinted, it is super important to help buyers get over every possible barrier. Try to exude reliability in all areas. By verifying your account in ‘account settings’, buyers see that they are buying from a real person.

2. Place your articles ‘properly’

Has your profile been created and personalised? Time to get you pre-loved start selling items! For each item, you create an ad. You take a few photos of your item, type a short description and mention a price. You can simply take photos with your phone and upload them immediately. Hoppa, your first Vinted ad is live! So how do you attract those buyers to your profile?

  • Small-price items sell easier and faster on Vinted. So consider carefully whether Vinted is the right platform for your possibly more expensive items.
  • Take good photos! Daylight so the colours show well, no clutter in the background. It all works together.
  • Create overview and unity by choosing one nice spot in your home to take all your photos. A calm and light background does well. But the same cheerful wallpaper over and over again can also make your shop stand out.
  • Take photos of the front and back of a garment, the piece on the hanger, pretty details and prints and (brand) labels.
  • Provide photos where you are wearing the garment. May also be headless.
  • Use so-called search terms in your texts, even in hashtags! Mention brand, type of garment, the model of a skirt or the colour of a pair of trousers. Put the most important terms in the ad title as well. Remember to use multiple words where you can, such as jacket, jacket or trench coat. Keywords like ‘summer’ and ‘winter’ will also help you sell. Or think about misspellings that people search on.
  • Give each item a clear description. Describe how you got the garment and why you are getting rid of it. Let some love for the garment shine through.
  • List the size and measurements for each garment. Buyers like to know the measurement from armpit to armpit or the overall length of a pair of trousers or skirt. Does an item no longer have a label? Then give an estimate of the size. Together with the photos, the measurements will give a buyer an idea of whether the clothes will fit.
  • Place at least ten items in your shop. Buying is much more fun when there is choice, right? Every item you put up for sale also helps you get found better. You can also include ‘giveaways’: things you send along for free from a certain purchase amount.
  • Give bundle discount. With at least ten items for sale and bundle discounts, your buyer can save on the purchase and shipping costs. For example, you can choose to give someone 30% discount when buying three items of clothing. This will make you sell faster and require fewer trips to the parcel point.
  • Choose a competitive price. This gives buyers a low risk in the sale. Moreover, this way you make a statement for ‘second-hand’. You don't need the top price for it: it's more important that you can make someone happy with it.
  • Stand out by boosting individual items or by ‘showcasing’ all your garments. This costs a few euros on Vinted.

Selling clothes on Vinted goes a lot better if you take time to take good photos.

Selling on Vinted: honesty lasts the longest

Most people don't necessarily mind if a button is loose, for example. Just make sure you are honest in your descriptions. Has your item clearly been worn a lot or does it have flaws? Then don't mark it as ‘very good’ either. That way, you won't get hassles from dissatisfied buyers either. Also read: Safety on Vinted.

3. Stand out by being kind, positive and considerate

Vinted has a handy chat feature for messages and bids. With quick and friendly responses, you sell the best! Can't be found on Vinted every day? Then turn on notification so you don't miss a message from a buyer.

  • Stand out by being kind, positive and considerate. Second-hand clothes are plentiful on Vinted and Marktplaats. But with a little kindness, you can stand out as a seller.
  • Answer questions neatly and on time. Make sure you get a notification if you are not on Vinted daily. Such a shame of all your efforts if you read a post too late.
  • Don't be offended at a low bid: it's nothing personal. You can simply reject an offer that is too low. Or make a counter-offer where you accommodate a buyer by another ten per cent, for example. I have often still sold something this way.
  • Does the sale not succeed? Send buyers who showed interest and marked the garment as a favourite an attractive offer from yourself.
  • Use the translation function. Vinted is big in France. Now I don't speak great French, but Vinted's chat has a translation function! So you don't have to struggle with translations yourself. That said, even a kind word in bad French is bound to get across the border just fine.

Don't get ripped off on Vinted

Never negotiate or sell outside Vinted. To avoid the risk of scams, make use of the app throughout the process. This is the only way Vinted can give you a refund if something unexpectedly goes differently than expected. Weird gut feeling? Then be sure to check someone's account and check their reviews.

4. Ship your items after sale

Is there good shopping? Complete the sale by shipping the parcel smoothly. Extra nice for the buyer!

  • Inform buyers when you ship something. That way, they are also more likely to be happy with your item and you will help build trust within Vinted as a community.
  • Take care of your parcel. For example, reuse a clean box and fold items neatly. Don't tape the box all over with duct tape.
  • Personalise your package. I always write a short message like ‘happy day’ or ‘I hope it suits you nicely’ in my best handwriting. Draw something cute like a little heart. That's how you make Vinted extra fun for the buyer (and yourself).
  • Ship the sold items as soon as possible, and in any case within five days. Use the shipping option chosen by the buyer to ensure the parcel arrives properly. The buyer pays the shipping costs.

5. Done! Sold well on Vinted

To keep Vinted secure, the platform works with Vinted wallets. Payments therefore arrive directly in your own Vinted wallet. This is exactly how the Vinted Wallet works. You can have this amount paid into your bank account. And it's nice to know if your item sold through Vinted arrived well to its new owner, right? I always ask if someone is happy with the package and if everything arrived well.

Leave a review on Vinted

Whether you are a buyer or seller, always take a moment to leave a review. I always try to give stars and reviews on Vinted. I make that something personal too. I thank buyers for buying from me and tell them that communication was smooth and nice. Or just that I am happy that something I once loved to wear is now going to be worn with love again. The more good reviews there are with your profile, the better you sell. Besides, you get what you give. If you give a friendly, honest review, you are also more likely to receive a nice review in return.
