Vegan meat substitutes from Greenforce.

GREENFORCE: powdered vegan food is tad unusual, but oh-so-tasty!

Okay admittedly, we were quite a bit sceptical when GREENFORCE asked us to test the powdered meat substitutes. We're content creators, not astronauts! But going forward, we are also open to new things. Especially if they are sustainable. This love story started with a ball sandwich.

Powdered vegan food from GREENFORCE?

In partnership with GREENFORCE

At home, I got to work on a GREENFORCE vegan ball sandwich. Well ball... it's not like you're buying a ready-made meat substitute. You buy this pea-based meat substitute online in powdered form. You pour the contents of the bag into a bowl or measuring cup, add water, stir briskly and then you have the basis of your ball or other meat substitute. They also have sausages, burgers, schnitzels, vegan egg and much more in powder form. That ball sandwich was super tasty, my husband and little son agreed, and so we started trying more goodies from them. Vegan hot dogs, for example, we thought that was something we would like too!

Our experience with GREENFORCE

We could not have imagined anything about pea powder and how to turn it into a tasty meat substitute with water. But it can be done very easily and it tastes great too! And that is exactly what GREENFORCE aims to do. The German start-up was founded by a great meat lover, Thomas Isermann. He was determined to put a product on the market that is better than the well-known meat substitutes, because he wants to convince meat lovers. The insight that it is not sustainable to feed the world with protein from meat and fish encouraged him to look for an alternative that is even more sustainable than an ordinary meat substitute and an alternative with which he can win over a large group of (meat eaters). Well, he succeeded! My husband is converted!

But why powder form, when most meat substitutes are just ready-made on the shelf anyway? Thomas: Isermann: ‘There are two major problems with the distribution of meat and meat substitutes. Firstly, refrigeration, which costs a lot of energy. And the weight of it, which means you can transport fewer products at once. With powdered meat, you solve those two problems. You don't need refrigeration and our products are light. And you can store it for a long time, because the pouches last for two years. You make only what you need that meal, so there is also less waste.’

A few more fun sustainable facts about these powdered meat substitutes:

  1. The products are high in protein and fibre, with the eight essential amino acids.
  2. Without flavour enhancers, preservatives and lactose.
  3. Produced as locally as possible: almost all our raw materials come from Europe; production takes place in Germany with very short supply chains.
  4. It has a long shelf life.
  5. Little food waste: you mix only what you need.
  6. It is wrapped in sustainable kraft paper and it is sustainably delivered to your home via DHL Go Green.
  7. GREENFORCE is a climate-neutral company: ‘both CO2 emissions from our activities and also from our products are 100 per cent offset. A regional tree-planting project in Germany has been chosen for this purpose’.

GREENFORCE products are for sale in the webshop. Do you shop at Pieter Pot? Then I have good news: you'll find some products on the digital shelf there too. As befits Pieter Pot, the pea powder then comes in an attractive weck jar which you can refill every order.
